to educate & produce classic, contemporary, and original performance works that reflect the black diaspora, especially that of the African American.
On Q Productions started in 2006 with a mission to educate and produce Classic, Contemporary, and Original Performance works that reflect the black diaspora, especially that of the African American.
On Q was founded by Quentin "Q" Talley, who saw a need to fill the gap in the cultural landscape. In November 2006, a Neighborhood Grant was awarded by the Arts and Science Council and On Q started with its first productions at Hart Witizen Gallery & C.A.S.T. The company grew attention and praise and continued with their mission by presenting Day of Absence at Levine Museum of the New South and For Colored Girls at The Mint Museum of Art in early 2008. Later that year, they produced an original, Miles & Coltrane: Blue(.) by Concrete Generation and in 2009 traveled to NYC, Edinburgh, to rave reviews. It is currently apart of On Q's touring productions.
On Q is currently in our 3rd season and the first African American Theater Company in residence at Blumenthal Performing Arts center in Charlotte, NC. In our short history, we have produced over 25 shows, 4 world premieres, hosted Tony Award nominated playwright Samm-Art Williams, and toured nationally and internationally.
